Beatles Tours Liverpool
Whether you take a self-guided tour, book an in-depth tour with a local music fan or see the sights as part of a city overview, Liverpool is a musical mecca for Beatles fans. The city is filled with song locations, former haunts, homes and schools to visit, highlighting more than 60 years of fondly remembered Beatle history.
The story starts with the Beatles’ childhood homes:
Mendips, the home John Lennon shared with his Aunt Mimi; Paul McCartney’s family home at 20 Forthlin Road; Ringo’s home in the Dingle area of Liverpool; and George Harrison’s childhood home in Arnold Grove.
Both Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road are now operated as museums by the National Trust, evocatively furnished in period 1950s style.
Next stop is St. Peter’s Church, where John and Paul first met in 1957, and where you’ll find the grave of Eleanor Rigby. John went to school at nearby Quarry Bank.
There’s also Strawberry Field, where John Lennon played as a child and recalled nostalgically in the hit 1967 single ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’. Penny Lane is another Liverpool sight commemorated by the Beatles in song.
Of course, in the city center there’s the Cavern Quarter, focusing on the rebuilt Cavern Club where the Fab Four played so many shows in the early 1960s. There’s also the Casbah club and other early venues the band played. John and Stu Sutcliffe studied at the Liverpool College of Art, while Paul and George went to the Liverpool Institute.
To help you explore Liverpool’s Beatles sites there are two-hour tours, half-day tours and full-day excursions. Walking tours follow the Beatles’ footsteps through Liverpool’s city center, including the Mathew Street Cavern area, local pubs, Brian Epstein’s NEMS music store and the John Lennon Peace Monument.
